The 103rd Motorised Division Piacenza was a Motorised Infantry Division of the Italian Army during World War II. [nb 1] The Division was formed in 1942, and was in the Italian IV Army, Italian XXII Corps that was part of the occupying Italian army in France, located in the Toulon area. At the end of August 1943, the Italian High Command decided to move the 4th Army from southern France back to Italy, where it was destroyed fighting the Germans after the Italian Surrender in September 1943.[1]

  1. The division never has the required amount of Motor Transport to move all its units at the same time and is sometimes referred to as a Semi Motorized Division

An Italian Infantry Division normally consisted of two Infantry Regiments (three Battalions each), a Artillery Regiment, a Mortar Battalion (two companies), a Anti Tank Company, a Blackshirt Legion (Regiment of two Battalions). Each Division had only about 7,000 men, The Infantry and Artillery Regiments contained 1,650 men, the Blackshirt Legion 1,200, each company 150 men.[2]
