The 34th Regiment Indiana Infantry, also known as The Morton Rifles, was organized at Anderson, Indiana, and mustered in September 16, 1861

  • to New Haven, Kentucky, November 15, and duty there till December 14, 1861.
  • Moved to Camp Wicliffe, Kentucky, December 14, 1861, and duty there until February 7, 1862.

Casualties[]

The Regiment lost during its service two Officers and 32 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded. There were also 5 Officers and 204 Enlisted men who died by disease, for a total of 243. [1]

The last casualty of the Civil War was a Hoosier {[2] Pvt John J Williams} in the 34th who was taking part in an engagement in Texas in 1865.[1]
