Country United States
Allegiance State of Virginia
Branch Continental Army

The Albemarle County Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Continental Army that participated in the American Revolutionary War. The battalion was part of the Virginia Line.

The Albemarle County Battalion was first authorized on 9 January 1779 by congress for only one years service. The battalion was formed to guard prisoners based in Virginia after the Battle of Saratoga. The battalion was only allowed to serve in the county it was named for, Albemarle County. The battalion had the following structure:

  • Battalion Staff
  • 1st Company
  • 2nd Company
  • 3rd Company
  • 4th Company
  • 5th Company
  • 6th Company
  • 7th Company
  • 8th Company

The battalion was later disbanded in 1780 following the end of their drafts. Although not a "regular regiment", the unit was assigned, indirectly, to the Virginia Line. The regiment was one of the many short lived separate battalions for duties to protect POWs.
