Burton DeWayne Patrick (born October 11, 1935) is a retired lieutenant general in the United States Army.[1] He is a former commander of the 101st Airborne Division. During the Vietnam War, he was Special Forces Advisor to the 42nd Vietnamese Ranger Battalion. The son of Walter and Ruby McElreath Patrick,[2][3] he attended the University of North Georgia and Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.[4][5] Upon his retirement from the army in 1988, Patrick served as the city administrator of Thomson, Georgia.[6]
