Edward Alexander Holton (August 28, 1835 – January 29, 1906) was a Medal of Honor recipient who fought in the 6th Vermont Infantry during the American Civil War.[1]
Civil War[]
Holton entered service at his birthplace, Williston, Vermont, on 2 May 1861, into the 1st Vermont Infantry. He joined the 6th Vermont Infantry in late 1861 as a first sergeant. By the end of the war, Holton was a Captain. He was discharged due to a disability in August 1864.[2][3]
Medal of Honor[]
Holton was awarded the Medal of Honor on 9 July 1892 for his actions at the Battle of Lees Mills on 16 April 1862. At this time, he was a first sergeant.[4]
Rescued the colors of his regiment under heavy fire, the color bearer having been shot down while the troops were in retreat.
