Prof. Dr. Eginhard Weißmann (28 April 1923 – 6 February 1998) was a highly decorated Oberleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. During his career he flew 740 missions.[Notes 1] Weißmann received a doctorate degree from the University of Mainz in experimental physics in 1954.[1]
