Errol Brathwaite (1924-2005) was a New Zealand author. He was born and grew up in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay. He experienced the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake first-hand. He was stationed at New Britain in World War II. He married Alison Whyte shortly after the war. They gave birth to Michael in 1949 and Pamela in 1951. In 1990, his grandson Anthony was born. He developed Alzheimer's disease in 1995, which worsened rapidly in 2003. He died of gangrene on 4 December 2005.
