Wayne Meredith Holmes (16 January 1915 in Cooperstown, New York - 1 December 1975 in Springfield, Massachusetts) was an American veteran who served in the United States Army during World War II.
Biography[]
Wayne was born in the village of Cooperstown, New York on 16 January 1915. He was the son of Frederick P. and Berthia L. Holmes. He also had two other siblings which were F. Prevost and Gertrude C. Holmes. He graduated from Springfield College earning a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Education degree. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Connecticut. Wayne enlisted in the United States Army on 31 December 1942 serving in World War II until being discharged on 11 January 1946. After the war he went on to work in Westfield, Massachusetts eventually becoming the Assistant Director of Teacher training and Associate teacher at Westfield State College in 1958 and marrying Angela Di Castro. He also was the Vice Chairman of the Westfield School Committee. In 1963 he left his job at Westfield State as a History teacher to pursue other things. He died in Springfield on 1 December 1975. He was buried in St. Marys Cemetery in Westfield.
