Vickers50

Typical naval anti-aircraft mounting of the Vickers 50.

The Vickers 50. machine gun (also known as the Vickers 50.) was a scaled up version of the Vickers machine gun. If fired the larger 0.5inch (12.7mm) round.

History[]

The gun was considered a good weapon for the 1930s but quickly became outdated during the 1940s. During the early stages of World War II it was mounted on British ships and used as a close range anti-aircraft weapon. In combat the Vickers 50. proved ineffective and was replaced on land by the 15mm Besa Machine Gun. The Royal Navy replaced the gun with the Oerlikon 20mm.
