Major General G G Dwivedi (Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal & bar) is an Indian Army career officer, academician, journalist, author and social worker. He retired in 2009 from the Indian Army (Infantry) as Assistant Chief Integrated Defence Staff after 38 years.[1]

Early life and education[]

Dwivedi was born on 1 July 1951 at Kolkata.[2] He is the grandson of eminent physician Rai Sahib Dr. Dewan Chand Dwivedi,[3] and son of Sh. O P Dwivedi, Indian National Army Veteran, senior executive in corporate and social activist.[4] He had his schooling in Sainik School, Amaravathinagar.[5] Later he joined to the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla. He holds M Sc in Defence Studies and dual M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University and Ph. D in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi.[6] An aluminum of National Defence College, besides Interpretership in Chinese from the School of Foreign Languages, he obtained "Art & Practice of Leadership Development" from Harvard Kennedy School" and "Leadership Development in Public Life" from Kansas Leadership Centre, USA.

Academic career[]

In his academic career Major General Dwivedi has achieved distinction recognition both at national and global levels. Presently Major General Dwivedi is Professor and Chairperson, Faculty of International Studies Aligarh Muslim University.[7]

Military career[]

A veteran of the Bangladesh War, he served on command assignments at Siachen Glacier, J&K[Clarification needed] and North East.[Clarification needed][8] He also was Defense Attache to China from 1997 to 1999.[9][10][11]

Dwivedi has been on the faculty of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He is a visiting faculty at the Foreign Services Institute, Delhi,[12] Himachal Institute of Public Administration, IIM Kashipur, Management Development Institute Gurgaon, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management,[13] Punjab University Chandigarh, and UGC HRD Center, AMU Aligarh. A member of notable think tank institutes/centres, Dwivedi regularly guest speaks at centres of excellence both in India & abroad and appears frequently as an expert panelist on the prime national TV channels.

Published works[]

Dwivedi has authored books on military history and edited number of books / book chapters on leadership and published over 40 articles including book chapters, on geostrategy, international relations and leadership, in leading professional journals and national dailies, besides over fifty shorts pieces on his personal experience.[14]

He has authored and edited books and his reference comes in many books like, Peace and Stability in Asia-Pacific Region: Assessment of the Security.[15] Recently he has co-author book titled 1962- A View from the Other Side of the Hill.[16][17][18]

Many of his articles have been published in various news papers. His notable articles includes "Battle for supremacy",[19] "Nothing is ever lasting",[20] "A tale of two cities",[20] "Go in for caliberated responses",[21] "Having car-free roads on Sundays",[22] "Two shades of autumn",[23] "‘Can’t bury the future",[8] "Passing on", and [24] "India’s National Security: Annual Review 2009"[25] He presented a keynote conference address on "Utilizing Military Veterans to add value to developmental initiatives in Rural and Semi-Urban Areas" on May 6, 2014 at Observer Research Foundation.[26] The new article published on 3rd Aug 2015 The Prez who wanted to be a billionaire[27]

His articles have also published in Wikileaks titled "Indian Article Discusses China's Foreign Policy To Oppose Rival Powers in Asia" Article by G. G. Dwivedi, former Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff: "Checkmating the Dragon's Growing Influence" - Political and Defence Weekly.[28] He has delivered lectures at Boston University.[29][30] and presented paper at International Journal of Arts & Sciences (IJAS) held at Harvard Medical School in May 2015.[31]

He made valuable contribution in the operational planning for 2010 Commonwealth Games, and also head of Spectator Services of 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.[32][33] He is founder chairman of school of Leadership & strategy. he is actively engaged in social initiative and veteran affairs.[34]
