The IP-2 is a 5.45mm machine gun designed by V.M.Kalashnikov and M.E.Dragunov from 1972–77 years. The gun can be fed by magazines with a capacity 45 rounds or a 200 round ammunition belt. The IP-2's sights are graduated to distance of 1000 m.
Machine guns were pretty thoroughly tested by the Soviet Army in Leningrad, but military experts did not see convincing arguments for replacing staff and machine guns RPK and RPK-74 with the IP-2 design. According to the military, the design was too complex, compared to other weapons then in use, which failed to enhance combat effectiveness.
