Pavlovych while an officer in SMERSH
Ivan Pavlovych Bublyk (1918–1996) was an officer in SMERSH, an independent counter-intelligence agency of the Soviet Red Army. He was the deputy chief of SMERSH for the 61st Army of the 1st Belorussian Front during World War II.
Biography
Ivan Bublyk was born in 1918 in the village of Kapustyntsi, currently located within the Yagotyn region of Kiev oblast, Ukraine. His father, Pavlo Fedotovych Bublyk, was a tailor.
Ivan had six brothers who worked in different spheres of social life of the Ukrainian Republic and Soviet Union: Kuzma Bublyk, a journalist, social activist and soldier of the Red Cossacks Regiment Kuzma Bublyk; Semen Bublyk, a Soviet-Ukrainian scientist; Danylo Bublyk, an officer of the NKVD from 1938–1940; Vasyl Bublyk, a cavalry and communications officer; and village teacher Yakiv Pavlovych Bublyk (1905–1999).
Ivan served as the deputy chief of SMERSH for the 61st Army of the First Belorussian Front during World War II. After the war, he finished his work in SMERSH and worked as a jurist in the military.
