James Whinnie Bowie (22 February 1924 – Killed in action 12 June 1944 in France) was an American Private in the United States Army during World War II. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions.

Biography[]

Bowie was born 22 February 1924 in Bowie, Colorado the third of three children.[1] His mother Martha[2] and father William[3] also had 5 other children Elizabeth,[4]Robert[5][6]. Ruth[2][3] William [4] and Katherine.[4]

He was killed in action 12 June 1944 while serving in France.[1] He is buried in Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France.[1] His grave can be found in plot G, row 15, grave 20.[1]
