John Tucker was the 3rd United States Assistant Secretary of War from January 29, 1862 to June 10, 1862 and the President of the Reading Railroad Company.

Biography[]

Tucker was the President of the Reading Railroad Company from 1844–1856. On January 26, 1862 he was nominated to be the 3rd United States Assistant Secretary of War. He replaced Peter H. Watson who had only held the position for four days January 29, 1862. In June 10, 1862 he was replaced by Christopher Wolcott.[1][2]
