The Khedive's Star was a campaign medal of the Khedivate of Egypt's military, created to reward those who had participated in the military campaigns in Egypt between 1882 and 1889. It was also awarded for the military actions involving the British Army during the 1882 Anglo-Egyptian War, where recipients of the British Egypt Medal were also eligible for the Khedive's star.
History[]
After the outbreak of the Anglo-Egyptian War in 1882, the United Kingdom met with opposition from Isma'il Pasha who was Egyptian supporter of independence from British protectorate. The end of the war brought to power the son of Isma'il, Tawfiq Pasha, a supporter of the British government, who decided to reward all British and Indian soldiers who took part in the fighting and had received the Egypt Medal.[1]
Description[]
The medal consists of a five-pointed star in the center with a round stamped with the front image of the sphinx and the pyramids background. All within a ring bearing the word "EGYPT 1882" and under the corresponding Arabic. The back has the monogram of Tawfiq Pasha crowned and surrounded by his Western titration. The bottom of the blue ribbon consists of a crescent and a star.
