Lester John Newton (4 June 1923 in Holyoke, Massachusetts - 30 July 2008 in Tampa Bay, Florida) was a American veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Lester was born in the city of Holyoke, Massachusetts on 4 June 1923. He was the son of Lester and Anna Newton. He also had a brother named Elwin. After graduating from Holyoke High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps later serving with the 4th Marine Division on Iwo Jima in World War II. For being wounded on Iwo Jima he was awarded the Purple Heart. He reached the rank of Private After the war he worked as a mail man delivering mail to places. He also worked at Holyoke Savings Bank. He married Norma L. MacCart. While living in Tampa Bay, Florida he passed away on 30 July 2008.
