  • Bermondsey (Civil Ensign of the United Kingdom United Kingdom): The cargo ship collided in the North Sea with Bornholm (Flag of Norway Norway or Civil Ensign of the United Kingdom United Kingdom) and was beached at South Shields, Co Durham. Refloated on 22 December. Declared a constructive total loss but repaired and re-entered service in 1943 as Empire Nutfield.[15]
  • Thomas A. Edison (US flag 48 stars United States): The Liberty ship was grounded on Vuata Vatoa, Fiji Islands. She was destroyed in a hurricane on 1—2 January 1943 along with USS Grebe (AM-43) which had herself became grounded attempting salvage.[16][17]
  • HMS Traveller (Naval Ensign of the United Kingdom Royal Navy): World War II: The T-class submarine struck a mine and sank off Taranto, Apulia, Italy with the loss of all 65 crew.[3]

  • HMT Bengali (Naval Ensign of the United Kingdom Royal Navy): The naval trawler was sunk at Lagos, Nigeria with the loss of one crew member.[3]
  • HMT Canna (Naval Ensign of the United Kingdom Royal Navy): The naval trawler was sunk at Lagos with the loss of twelve crew.[3]
  • Hardhaus (Flag of Norway Norway): The coaster capsized and sank in the North Sea off Lindesnes, Vest-Agder.[18]
  • HMT Spaniard (Naval Ensign of the United Kingdom Royal Navy): The naval trawler was sunk at Lagos with the loss of two crew.[3]
  • Teesbank (Civil Ensign of the United Kingdom United Kingdom): World War II: The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean (3°33′N 29°35′W / 3.55°N 29.583°W / 3.55; -29.583) by U-128 (War Ensign of Germany 1938-1945 Kriegsmarine) with the loss of one of her 62 crew. The captain was taken on board U-128 as a prisoner of war. Other survivors were rescued by Bessemer (US flag 48 stars United States) and East Wales (Civil Ensign of the United Kingdom United Kingdom).[19]
