Lucien Bonaparte Webster (March 17, 1801 - November 4, 1853) was a United States Army officer who served in the Mexican-American War and the brother-in-law of Confederate general Edmund Kirby Smith.

Career[]

Webster was appointed from his home state of Vermont to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1819. He graduated in 1823 and was made a brevet Second Lieutenant of artillery. In 1838, he participated in the Army's removal of Cherokee Native Americans from North Carolina on the Trail of Tears.

Family[]

Lucien married Frances Smith, the sister of Edmund Kirby Smith on December 21, 1837, in Saint Augustine, St. Johns County, Florida. They had five children; Josephine, Katharine (Nov 1842 - May 1843, died in infancy), Frances, Lucien Jr. (Mar - Aug 1848, died in infancy) and Edmund Kirby (named after his maternal uncle).
