  • 6 December – A soldier was killed while a policeman was wounded in separate clashes between government forces and suspected members of the Maute group in Butig, Lanao del Sur, a military official said Tuesday.[1]
  • 10 December – Three members of Abu Sayyaf, including a leader, were killed in a shooting between the police and the militant. The shooting occurred Malaysia.[2]
  • 20 December – Four fishing boat crew were reportedly abducted off Sulu.[3]
  • 24 December – At least sixteen people, including a police officer, were injured in a blast outside a Catholic church in the southern Philippines.[4]
  • 28 December – Two bombs injured thirty-three people who were attending an amateur boxing match in the town of Hilongos.[5]
  • 29 December – A bomb exploded on a highway on the island of Mindanao, in Aleosan, wounding six people.[5]
  • 31 December – An improvised explosive device exploded outside a municipal gymnasium in the southern Philippines where a gathering for peace and unity was held on New Year's Eve, no one injured in blast outside municipal gymnasium.[6]

  • 4 January2017 Kidapawan jail siege: Around 100 gunmen attacked the North Cotabato District Jail in Kidapawan in the southern Philippines. A total of 158 inmates escaped, fourteen of whom were quickly re-captured, while five others were killed.[7]
  • 29 January – Two children were killed and three others were injured when a bomb went off in Al-Barka.[8]
  • 15 February – Eight passengers were wounded when suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen shot at a bus on the outskirts of Zamboanga.[9]
  • 27 February – a German sailor who was beheaded by Abu Sayyaf in the Philippines after he was hostage on 5 November 2017.[10]
  • 16 March – A Vietnamese seafarer who was kidnapped on 19 February, by Abu Sayyaf was killed while trying to escape his captors.[11]
  • 31 March – An improvised explosive device went off at a roadside in Midsayap, North Cotabato before dawn on Saturday wounding a pedicab driver. A minor was injured.[12]
  • 11 April2017 Bohol clashes: At 5 A.M. (PST) a firefight did start between Abu Sayyaf and pro-government's forces in Bohol, as at 2 P.M. (PST) a policeman and three soldiers were killed by the clashes.[13]
  • 13 July – The military said that a bullet-riddled body of Vietnamese national Tran Viet Van was re-covered in Barangay (village) Buhanginan in Patikul town, Sulu province.[14]
  • 28 July – Nine soldiers were injured when suspected militants set off an improvised explosive device (IED) in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao.[15]
  • 18 August – Police Senior Superintendent Agustin Tello said five fighters from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) died in their latest clash with the BIFF militants on Friday.[16]
  • 21 August – Nine people were killed, while sixteen others were wounded after Abu Sayyaf bandits attacked a village in Basilan province.[17]
  • 16 October – In the early morning, the leader of the group Abu Sayyaf Isnilon Hapilon was killed by the Philippine Army, along with the co-founder of the Maute group Omar Maute in the city of Marawi.[18]
  • 23 October – The five-month-long siege in Marawi ended with Philippine Government's victory.[19]
  • 24 October – The Maute group was later declared "practically wiped out" by the armed forces following the deaths of the seven Maute brothers.[20]
  • 15 December – Remnants of the Maute group reportedly are recruiting new members around Marawi in December 2017. The successor group has been labeled as the "Turaifie group" after its purported leader, Abu Turaifie.[21]
  • 31 December
    • Two people were killed and sixteen others were injured when an improvised bomb went off along a national highway.[22]
    • A police officer was killed while five others were injured when a bomb exploded as the police patrol’s vehicle passed some 400 metres (1,300 ft) away from the headquarters of the Philippine National Police’s Provincial Police Office in the poblacion.[23]

  • 1 January – Two soldiers from the 57th IB were injured when an improvised explosive device went off some 50 metres (160 ft) from the provincial hospital.[24]
  • 8 January – Five Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and a soldier were killed in a five-hour attack.[25]
  • 9 January – A soldier was killed while two civilians were injured when a suspected Islamic State-inspired Moro armed group set off two separate roadside bombs in Maguindanao [26]
  • 19 January – Two explosions rocked Barangay Semba, likely the handwork of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). No one was hurt in the twin blasts but shrapnel hit the gate of a nearby house and several trees in the area.[27]
  • 25 January – Two civilians were killed while another was injured in an improvised bomb explosion in the middle of a ricefield in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao.[28]
  • 1 February – Two people were killed while four others were wounded when Abu Sayyaf bandits waylaid a private vehicle in Patikul, Sulu.[29]
  • 14 February – Members of the Abu Sayyaf Group abducted a government engineer in Jolo, Sulu.[30]
  • 18 February – Five soldiers, including a junior officer, were injured in a roadside bombing in Datu Unsay, Maguidanao.[31]
  • 29 April – Abu Sayyaf extremists kidnapped four people, including two female police officers in Patikul in the Philippine province of Sulu.[32]
  • 7 May – Three Abu Sayyaf terrorists were killed and seven soldiers wounded in an encounter in Patikul in the province of Sulu in the Philippines.[33]
  • 13–14 May – Eleven Abu Sayyaf terrorists and three soldiers were killed and 17 others injured in several shootouts in Patikul in the Philippine province of Sulu.[34]
  • 16 June – A woman believed to be pregnant was killed while a 14-year-old boy was injured by mortar fire from members of BIFF in General Salipada K. Pendatun in the Philippine province of Maguindanao.[35][36]
  • 30 June – Militants of BIFF detonated two bombs that rocked the Barangay Hall of Barangay Timbangan in the municipality of Shariff Aguak in the Philippine province of Maguindanao. No one was injured in the incident.[37]
  • 1–4 July – Eight more members of BIFF have been killed in a series of clashes in Maguindanao that began on Sunday.[38]
  • 31 July – A bomb exploded in a van and killed a suspected bomber, a soldier, four paramilitaries and four civilians, including a mother and her child, at a military checkpoint in the city of Lamitan in the province of Basilan in the southern Philippines. Twelve others were wounded in the attack.[39][40][41]
  • 28 August – Two civilians were killed and other thirty-six injured for the explosion of a homemade bomb during a street festival, this in the municipality in Sultan Kudarat province, southern Philippines.[42]
  • 2 September2018 Isulan bombings: A bomb blast in an internet cafe in Southern Philippines killed at least 1 and injured 15 the attack was blamed on the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.[43][44]
  • 14 September – Clashes with the Abu Sayyaf group in the municipality of Patikul resulted in 17 wounded from the military, whilst 7 Abu Sayyaf militants were killed and 6 wounded.[45]
  • 16 September – Eight people were injured including a six-year-old girl, when a bomb went off in front of a pharmacy in General Santos, Philippines, the police blamed the pro-ISIS faction of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters for the bombing.[46][47]
