<p data-rte-fromparser="true">USS <i>Arizona</i> was laid down in 1858 at the shipyard of <a data-rte-meta="%7B%22type%22%3A%22internal%22%2C%22text%22%3A%22Harlan%20and%20Hollingsworth%22%2C%22link%22%3A%22Harlan%20and%20Hollingsworth%22%2C%22wasblank%22%3Atrue%2C%22noforce%22%3Atrue%2C%22wikitext%22%3A%22%5B%5BHarlan%20and%20Hollingsworth%5D%5D%22%7D" data-rte-instance="104-12726672955df255a1f13c2" class="new" title="Harlan and Hollingsworth (page does not exist)" rel="nofollow" data-uncrawlable-url="L3dpa2kvSGFybGFuX2FuZF9Ib2xsaW5nc3dvcnRoP2FjdGlvbj1lZGl0JnJlZGxpbms9MQ==">Harlan and Hollingsworth</a> in Wilmington, Delaware, and completed in 1859.  She was intended to carry passengers and freight on a route from New Orleans to the Brazos River (in Texas) for the <a data-rte-meta="%7B%22type%22%3A%22internal%22%2C%22text%22%3A%22Southern%20Steamship%20Company%22%2C%22link%22%3A%22Southern%20Steamship%20Company%22%2C%22wasblank%22%3Atrue%2C%22noforce%22%3Atrue%2C%22wikitext%22%3A%22%5B%5BSouthern%20Steamship%20Company%5D%5D%22%7D" data-rte-instance="104-12726672955df255a1f13c2" class="new" title="Southern Steamship Company (page does not exist)" rel="nofollow" data-uncrawlable-url="L3dpa2kvU291dGhlcm5fU3RlYW1zaGlwX0NvbXBhbnk/YWN0aW9uPWVkaXQmcmVkbGluaz0x">Southern Steamship Company</a> but also made other voyages along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of the United States.
