The last survivor of more than 600 Dutch volunteers in the International Brigade (only 150 volunteers eventually survived World War II). Left in 1937 to Spain and was hit in the head in January 1938. Captured 3 months later and released in July 1943. Volunteered in the Princes Irene Brigade during World War II.[10]
